Simon Tonev · Tonev / Tonedeaf
Tonev? Tonedeaf.

I want to experience music on the dance floor like I do films. It needs dramaturgy and I love surprises. What drives me as a DJ, is the magical moment that happens when you're in the 'in-between-land'. When two songs perfectly merge together harmonically and rhythmically. I spend a lot of time not only composing 1-4 hour sets, but finding those transitions that makes us emotionally and spiritually touched.

too busy for balance

A couple of years ago I reached a point where my energy was drained because of the film industry. I watched films, I wrote films, I worked on films, I talked about films. There was no balance. I have played drums since I was a child and realized I was not playing any music anymore. I was already listening to deep house and melodic house music to escape a busy reality.

Lost in the moment

Then someone told me I should start DJ-ing myself. I laughed, said no and moved on. Some time later someone said it again. I decided to try it out in case I was missing out on something. I was absorbed by how captivating it was. I could play for hours by myself, for friends and at smaller house parties. My friends supported me and pushed me to start playing on the dance floor. So,I have decided to stay lost in the moment.
